Meet Nicole Wood, an online Graduate Certificate in Accounting student, and hear why she loves accounting and why she chose an Auburn Accounting Online program.
Online Graduate Certificate in Accounting (GCA)
Why are you interested in a career in accounting?
I believe my career in accounting will land me in a spot where I enjoy going to work and am able to create a lot a value for my employer.
Why did you use Auburn University?
Deciding to attend Auburn was a decision that I put a lot of thought into but also came to an easy conclusion on. After researching other MAcc programs, no other school came close to the experience that Auburn would give me as a distant student. The only difference in myself and an on campus student is the fact that they are in class for lectures and I watch them at night after a full day's work.
What has been your most favorite class/professor at Auburn and why?
As a second semester student, I am really enjoying Income Tax II with Dr. Key. During the lectures she really strives to make as many connections as possible and explains the reasoning/thoughts behind each topic--verses just a high overview. Even though I am unable to go to her office she is only a phone call or email away to help you understand any question.
How do you balance your career and family commitments while pursuing an accounting education?
My current career is as an accountant for Georgia-Pacific. Graduating college, moving to another state, and beginning work full time while starting the Master’s program has been a huge learning, growing, and rewarding experience. However, I am thankful for my Alma Mater, Berry College, who though balancing a golf career, on-campus job, and an accounting degree granted me the experiences to prepare for where I am today. Even when the semester gets hard I know it will all be worth it in the end.
Is there any other information you would like to add?
Even though I grew up in Georgia and being a huge fan of Athens, I can't wait to proudly say one day that I have a master’s degree from Auburn.
