On September 11, we have a very special guest visiting the Harbert College – retired 4-star General Barry McCaffrey!
During his 32-year service in the U.S. Army, General McCaffrey received 3 Purple Heart medals, 2 Silver Stars for valor, and 2 Distinguished Service Crosses.
He served 4 combat tours, led troops in Desert Storm, and commanded SOUTHCOM – the unified command responsible for U.S. military activities in Central America and South America.
After retiring from the Army, he served as the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (i.e., the ‘Drug Czar’) under President Bill Clinton. Currently, he serves as a military analyst for NBC and MSNBC and is president of his own consulting firm.
General McCaffrey will spend the day with us, meeting with various groups and speaking to classes, culminating in a presentation about leadership at 3:15pm (open to all faculty and students).
