The Raymond J. Harbert College of Business hosted the 4th Annual Alabama Society for Human Resource Management Student Leadership Conference on Friday, November 10, 2017. The Alabama SHRM State Council sponsors the conference each year to provide professional development for students studying human resource management. The local East Alabama SHRM professional chapter co-sponsored the event.
Students from 10 schools in Alabama attended the conference, with over 70 participants
at panel sessions with HR professionals, education and training talks including information
about the SHRM-CP certification, and a keynote presentation by Dr. Gary Huckaby, founding
partner and President of Huckaby Consulting Group. Regions Bank sponsored the afternoon
session and gave away a signature green bike.
HR panelists included: Blinda Walker - HR Director at American Proteins, Karen Burton
- HR Manager at NASA,
Magen Johnson - HR Specialist at Listerhill Credit Union, Melissa DeVore - ALSHRM State Director
and Director of HR at Hudson Alpha Institute for Biotechnology
A highlight of the ALSHRM Student Leadership Conference is the "HR Games" - a Jeopardy-style team competition with challenging HR topics. Twelve student teams represented their respective schools in a double elimination HR Games tournament. Local and state HR professionals volunteered as judges for the competition.
Auburn University SHRM teams won 3rd Place and 4th Place. Participants included Brandon Blaylock, Emmalyn Merrill, Jasmine Caldwell, Fatima Shaikh Gilbert, Morgan Robinson, Emmy Njaaga, Alex Thomas, Jill Thackston, and Elizabeth Curry.
