Dr. Peter Kang, right, and the physicians of AllBetterCare Urgent Care Center
AllBetterCare Urgent Care Center, co-founded by Dr. Peter Kang, M.D., Auburn Physicians Executive MBA student, Class of 2017, was recently named a top 100 “Best Place to Work” among companies in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Kang attributes lectures and discussion of empowerment, motivation and change from his studies in the Physicians Executive MBA (PEMBA) program as contributing factors in his urgent care center being honored.
“I implemented some of the things I learned from the class and my practice has now been named one of the Top 100 Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania,” Kang said.
AllBetterCare, which has locations in Carlisle, Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg, Pa., is a locally owned medical practice dedicated to evaluating and treating a broad spectrum of acute illness and injury, including orthopedic injuries and lacerations. In addition to co-founding AllBetterCare, Dr. Kang serves as a managing partner and is among 12 physicians and 15 administrative staff and mid-level providers working together at the three locations.
Best Places to Work in PA is a survey and awards program dedicated to identifying and recognizing organizations that have excelled in creating quality workplaces for their employees. The awards program is undertaken through a partnership of the Central Penn Business Journal, Team Pennsylvania Foundation, Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) – Pennsylvania State Council, and Best Companies Group (BCG).
The top 100 list of recipients represents 30,256 employees of 76 small to medium companies and 24 large companies. In order to be eligible to compete, companies had to be a for-profit or non-profit business, be publicly or privately held, employ at least 25 employees working in Pennsylvania and be in business for at least one year.
Companies began the application process in late March. Once registered, a survey was administered to both employees and employers at hundreds of companies across Pennsylvania. Winners were chosen based on who received the highest combined scores in a twofold evaluation: a review of a company’s workforce policies, practices, philosophies, systems and demographics (25%) and results of an employee survey measuring employee satisfaction (75%). Using a formula similar to Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America,” the Best Companies Group surveyed and scored the workplace and each candidate was given an overall score.
Dr. Kang, an Ohio native, relocated to south central Pennsylvania in 2008 to start his career in emergency medicine. Following completion of undergraduate studies at Kent State University, he received his M.D. degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University. He completed his specialty training in Emergency Medicine at Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio, and is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Kang has received honorary recognition in being named a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians as well as a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and serves on the Committee for Emergency Medicine Practice/Medical Economics for the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
