Jillian recently graduated in December 2015. While at Auburn, she had a graduate assistantship assigned to Tiger Cage. We'll let her tell you a little bit about her experience.
An MBA was a good choice for me because my bachelor’s degree has a narrow focus on
HR Management. I knew if I wanted to reach a higher level of leadership in an organization
I would need a big picture understanding of running a business. The MBA program provides
exactly that. I have already seen how an MBA has opened doors for me.
I was the Graduate Assistant assigned to Tiger Cage. Tiger Cage is a student business plan competition open to all majors. The concept comes from the hit TV show Shark Tank where start-ups pitch their business plans to potential investors.
I worked with the Harbert College of Business and the Auburn Research and Technology Foundation to develop event programming, recruit and manage competitors, and identify areas for future improvement. We have an entrepreneurial spirit at Auburn, so we wanted to give students an opportunity to share their ideas and, hopefully, start successful businesses. All you need is an idea! 2015 was the inaugural year, so we learned a lot, and we are looking forward to Tiger Cage 2016!
The MBA program has given me a solid understanding of what makes a business successful, so I feel confident working with the student start-ups. I also think it was helpful to have an MBA student working with the competitors, because they felt comfortable reaching out to me with questions or issues.
My experience at Auburn was amazing! Not only are the classes interesting and relevant for life and business, but the program also provides leadership training and development. I have learned a lot about my leadership style and how to work with and learn from others.
