Paul Homsher, currently stationed in Texas, serves as a Captain in the United States air force. He heard about the Auburn Online MBA Program through a fellow Captain that joined him in pilot training. Auburn is honored to work with the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. Paul is a great example of someone who is juggling life, a career and higher education. During his 6 week summer semester, he took one exam in Kuwait, another in Qatar, and the last in the U.S. We’ll let him tell you more about his Auburn Online MBA experience.
I received a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Air Force Academy
in Colorado Springs. As a military officer, I believe it is crucial to open as many
doors as possible with each career choice. An MBA gives me the ability to enter any
career field with the skills necessary to advance any existing company or start my
own. Therefore, obtaining an MBA gives me the most opportunity to succeed in my future
either within or outside the military.
During training I mentioned this to Capt Stead and he introduced me to the distance MBA offered by Auburn. After watching a few of his classes, I was immediately drawn to the program. I began the application process within a week and the rest is history.
The greatest advantage of Auburn’s program is that it is an established brick-and-mortar school which provides an online class structure nearly identical to being in the classroom. Simply put, I feel just as much a part of each class as the students actually in the building.
My experience with the program has been fantastic. The instruction has been world class, and the teachers are wonderfully responsive to every question. Like many other distance students, there have been times where I have struggled with certain due dates, assignments, etc. for unforeseen reasons, and the faculty has been fantastic at accommodating such inquiries. For example, during the 6 week summer semester, I have one exam scheduled in Kuwait, another in Qatar, and the last in the U.S. This could have been an absolute nightmare trying to coordinate, but the faculty and support staff at Auburn were extremely professional and helpful in solving the issue.
Whether as an officer or civilian, I will use my MBA to improve my current profession. Supplemented with a background in engineering, I feel I have the technical expertise and business proficiency to assist any company with excelling in today’s marketplace.
I highly recommend Auburn’s Distance MBA Program to any professional employee considering advancing their degree. The Harbert College of Business has an exceedingly solid reputation, making this MBA far more valuable than all other distance learning programs.
