Dr. Abernethy has more than 50 refereed publications in outlets such as the Journal of Advertising , Journal of Advertising Research , Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising , Journal of Public Policy and Marketing , and the Journal of Business Research among others. He is currently on the editorial review boards of the Journal of Advertising , Journal of Advertising Research , Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising , Marketing Education Review and the Journal of Interactive Advertising . He was named outstanding reviewer for the Journal of Advertising in 1998. Professor Abernethy has won the best paper award at the Journal of Advertising and the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing .
He is a former Vice-President of the American Academy of Advertising and edited the annual proceedings. His research on advertising information, media planning, advertising public policy and the yellow pages are included in many advertising textbooks. He has taught a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate classes and has won numerous awards for teaching excellence.
