Professional Activities

Jana Smith is the Assistant Director of the Executive MBA Programs for the College Of Business. As the Assistant Director, Ms. Smith is responsible for all elements of the recruitment process for Executive and Physicians Executive MBA students, including developing and executing marketing and advertising plans, evaluating applications and interviewing candidates, and enhancing relations between the corporate community and the program. She also supports the on-site residency classes and acts as a general liaison between the faculty and students. Prior to joining Auburn University in 2001, Ms. Smith spent 22 years in the aerospace industry. During that time, she worked for Goodrich Aerospace in California and GKN Aerospace in Alabama. While at Goodrich Aerospace, Ms. Smith’s responsibilities ran the gamut from Industrial Engineer to Manufacturing Manager to Program Manager. As an engineer, she worked in tooling, machining, and sheet metal fabrication. Her manufacturing experience culminated with responsibility for all of the final assembly operations in the Chula Vista, CA plant including products for Boeing, McDonnell Douglas, General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, and Rolls Royce. Upon completion of her MBA, Ms. Smith transferred out of operations into the business side of the organization as a Program Manager with responsibility for profit and loss on the Boeing programs. The high point of her career as a Program Manager was the new product launch of the nacelle components for Boeing’s 737 Next Generation aircraft. At GKN, Ms. Smith was Vice President of Programs providing leadership and management oversight to multiple program teams. Her customers included Boeing, Airbus, British Aerospace, Lockheed-Martin, Pratt & Whitney, General Electric, and Sikorsky. Ms. Smith is a lifetime member of Beta Gamma Sigma.
