Dr. Lawrence’s current assignment is to build out a professional education initiative involving online education and non credit offerings for the Harbert College. At the beginning of 2015, he completed a six year assignment building the Office of Professional & Career Development from the ground up to include facilities, technologies, services and staff. The OPCD staff included full time, temporary, graduate student, and undergraduate student employees. Prior to the OPCD, Dr. Lawrence served in a solo role in the college as the Director of Corporate Services, where he coached students, instituted career fairs, job assistance seminars, and professional development sessions for College of Business students. He also conducted multiple employer development/employer relations visits in the summers for several years.
Academically, he contributed to the development and redeployment of BUSI 1010 and BUSI 2010, and has taught both courses many times. He created and taught BUSI 3010 – Job Search Skills (college level), and COUN 2970 - The Senior Year Experience on the university level. He also has taught introductory logistics, the professional development course for MBAs, and supervised the BUSI internship course. For seven years, he was advisor to the Executive Society, the COB student host/leadership organization. Dr. Lawrence has served on numerous college committees. His initial assignment in the COB was Director of the Lowder Family Business Center where he organized initial program efforts. For 11 years, he worked in a variety of career services roles within the AU Career Center. His professional affiliations have included the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers, and the Society for Human Resource Management. In 2008, he completed the NACE Management Leadership Institute program. Additionally, he was PHR certified by the Society for Human Resource Management from 2009-2011. His previous experience includes sales in the consumer foods industry, and as a firefighter.
