Duffey, who earned a horticulture degree from the College of Agriculture, began laying the groundwork for his business ventures at the age of 23. While working a full-time job, he created the business plan for Tailgate Guys and eventually launched it from his home office in Auburn.
Tailgate Guys earned a spot on Inc. magazine’s list of the nation’s top 5,000 fastest-growing companies in 2014 and ranked 17th among Alabama businesses. Duffey opened a sister company, The Event Group Rentals, in 2014. Duffey’s business has grown more than 1,400% since 2009.
Through his companies, Duffey created more than 100 jobs in the last year alone and has expanded operations to four states – Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Texas. His business model, which centers on partnerships with universities for tailgating and special events, has been embraced by Auburn University, the University of Florida, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, and the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

In 2013, Tailgate Guys earned recognition from Food & Wine magazine for creating one of the “Top Five College Football Tailgate Scenes.”
Duffey supports a variety of non-profit organizations, including Storybook Farms, the EAMC Foundation, and The Jule Collins Smith Museum.
