The syllabus is in Adobe format. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Exchange or Adobe
Reader, you can download the free Acrobat reader from the Adobe web site (a link exists to
this site on my home page).
If you do not have an e-mail account, you may wish to set up your AU e-mail account
(although this is not required for the class). To set up your e-mail account, call (334)
844-5800 from a touch-tone phone, select the "e-mail and computer user ID"
option, and follow the instructions (hint: your personal access code is the same code you
use to register for classes). You may want to write down the initial password until you
have a chance to login to the DUC Sun Network and change it to something you can easily
If you have an official AU email account and do not wish to use it as your primary
e-mail account, you can easily forward all of the mail that is sent to the AU account to
the email account of your choice. To do this, log in to the DUC Sun Network and at the
prompt type pico .forward; (do not forget the period before forward - no space
between the period and the word forward) a new screen will appear where you will type the
e-mail address that you wish the mail to be forwarded to; then use CTRL X to cancel, and
hit the return key until you return to the system prompt. Your mail will now be forwarded
to the e-mail address of your choice.
An on-line solution manual is available; the username and password will be
given in class.
for Thursday are available for download. In addition, the
nonmonetary exchange overhead handed
out in class on Tuesday is also available in case you didn't get one.
Week of January
In class Problems
for Tuesday are available. If we don't cover these by the end of class
Tuesday, we will begin class with these on Thursday. Be sure to bring
the In-Class problems noted for last week with you to class also.
In class problems
for Thursday are available.
Week of January
- We will begin Chapter 11 on Tuesday. As stated in
the syllabus and the first day of class, this chapter has been significantly
revised due to the passage of FAS 141 and FAS 142. You need to go to the
Nikolai-Bazley website and download the new chapter (the link is on my
- The in-class problems on
intangibles (to be covered Tuesday) and on
goodwill (to be covered Thursday) are available for download.
- I will post the exam scores as soon as I have them
graded and recorded. I do not anticipate this being before Monday.
I plan on handing back the test in class on Thursday.
- Your grades have been
posted. We will discuss the test in class on Thursday.
February 3, 2002:
- Sorry for the delay in posting the assignment - I ran
into some technical difficulties. In any case, the in-class
problems - part 1 for Thursday are now available.
- Revised solutions for problems are now available on the
solution manual part of the website. Be aware that these problems
reflect changes in FASB statements, etc as well as errors in the original
solution manual. These revised solutions are for all chapters of
the book. This is an extremely large file. My advice is that you
do not try to print it out - simply either check your solutions on-line or
print out the relevant pages only. Remember, let's not kill any trees

February 17, 2002:
- Problems for Thursday
are available for download.
- I will return the test to you next Tuesday. I
will post the grades as soon as they are finished - which probably will not be
until Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.
- Test grades have been

March 17, 2002:
- Your tests are graded. However, I have not had a
chance to record these yet. I will hand them out in class tomorrow
- Please download
pension problems III and IV for class on Thursday.
Problems I and II were given out in
class on Tuesday. Please download these if you were not there Tuesday.

- Grades are posted - these
are raw scores. The median was a 73.
April 14, 2002
- Your attendance/project
grade is available. If you feel I have made an error, please email me with
the reason you believe it is in error. Your
project 2 grade is also available.
- The study sheet
for the final is available. I hope it helps. I believe it is
comprehensive; however, I may have inadvertently left something off. If
something is left off and you think it is important, I would study it.
- Please bring two scantrons to the final exam - place
your answers to the first part (11 multiple choice) on one scantron and the
answers to the second part on the other (25 multiple choice)
- Your grades on the
final exam are posted. NOTE: both tests are curved. For the
cash flow test, I threw out two questions on errors that I felt were unfair
given the coverage in class - thus, some people have grades in excess of 100.
The final class average and median (all test scores plus attendance) of the
class is a 78 - great job this semester; I know it was challenging and I was
extremely proud of your effort. Check OASIS for your letter grade.
