The Alabama Department of Revenue (ADOR) has a new tax internship program that is launching this summer, and they want AU students to apply! Students must have completed five accounting courses to be eligible, and a number of locations across the state are seeking interns.
Paid summer and part-time annual internships are available in Montgomery at ADOR’s central office, as well as across the state at Taxpayer Service Centers, located in:
As an ADOR intern, you will work in one of the following tax divisions:
- Individual and Corporate Tax
- Sales and Use Tax
- Property Tax
- Business and License Tax
- Motor Vehicle
One of our "inside contacts" suggested that, once your application is accepted and you are placed on the register as eligible, you should be proactive in making inroads at your preferred location. Take a copy of your application/résumé and drop by the location (dressed for success, of course) to introduce yourself to management and let them know you are interested and have competed the application process. Each of the field offices will have three or more managers…income tax, sales tax, collections, etc. They are all busy with too many tasks and limited time. Sometimes a great candidate can motivate a manager to submit a request to hire. Management sometimes has flexibility, so a great attitude and the willingness to go a little above and beyond in seeking the job can pay off. If you secure a position near Auburn, there is a possibility it could extend beyond the summer on a part-time basis.
