Dieter Uckelmann has been a professor of information logistics at Hochschule für Technik Stuttgart (Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences, Germany) since 2012. He is also a visiting professor at the Università degli Studi di Parma (University of Parma in Parma, Italy).
Uckelmann studied mechanical engineering in Braunschweig and did his doctorate at the University of Bremen in the field of production engineering on the subject of "Quantifying the Value of RFID and the EPCglobal Architecture Framework in Logistics." He was visiting researcher at Cambridge University (UK, 2009) and Parma University (Italy, 2016). His research activities focus on the one hand on applications in the Internet of Things in the areas of Industry 4.0, logistics and smart building, and on the other hands-on didactics in engineering education, especially with the involvement of laboratories.
From 2005 to the beginning of 2012 he was managing director of the LogDynamics Lab at the University of Bremen. He is also co-editor of the International Journal of RF Technologies: Research and Applications. Before his academic career, he was managing director of several companies in the information and communication sector.
