In an effort to recognize Auburn University's established and emerging business leaders and innovators, the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business created the Auburn University Entrepreneurship Summit. The 2018 Auburn University Entrepreneurship Summit, which will be held April 5-6 at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center, features programming aimed at honoring alumni and students from each of Auburn University's colleges and schools:
- Tiger Cage: Similar to ABC's popular "Shark Tank," Tiger Cage challenges undergraduate and graduate
students to compete for funding and other prizes that will help them turn their big
ideas into thriving businesses. Competitors have the opportunity to receive mentorship
from successful alumni entrepreneurs and other experts before submitting proposals.
The finals of the $50,000 Tiger Cage are free and open to the public and will be held
Friday, April 6, at 9:30 a.m. in the hotel auditorium.
- Top Tigers: Presented in partnership with Business Alabama magazine and the accounting firm Warren Averett, this program recognizes fast-growing businesses founded, owned, operated or led
by Auburn University alumni. Nominees are evaluated based on revenue growth and their
ability to operate in a manner consistent with the Auburn Creed. Salt Life President
and 1988 Auburn business graduate Jeff Stillwell will be the keynote speaker for the ticketed event, which begins Friday, April 6,
at 11:30 in the hotel ballroom.
- Entrepreneur Hall of Fame: Open to alumni from each of Auburn University's colleges, the Hall of Fame inducted its first member in April 2015. The Hall of Fame awards program affords the opportunity to recognize the achievements of alumni who, by virtue of their entrepreneurial spirit, have made a significant impact in their professions. In addition to recognizing the career achievements of Auburn University alumni, the Harbert College of Business presidents individual awards in recognition of excellence -- the Spirit of Auburn Family Entrepreneur Award, Entrepreneur of the Year and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. This year's event, which will be held Thursday, April 5, at 6 p.m. in the hotel ballroom, will honor: former Accenture CEO Joe Forehand, Jr., a 1971 engineering graduate (Hall of Fame inductee); The Broadway Group founder Bob Broadway, a 1991 business graduate (Entrepreneur of the Year); Tara Wilson Agency CEO Tara Wilson, a 1997 business graduate (Entrepreneur of the Year); and Elite Transit Solutions CEO Michael Johnson, a 2008 business alum (Young Entrepreneur of the Year).
