Biography
A certified public accountant, Dr. Amy Mathews began her career in assurance at PwC in Nashville, performing audits for clients in the banking capital markets and asset wealth management industries. This experience has informed her academic research, which uses mixed methods (surveys and interviews) to explore the job factors that motivate high-quality work, contribute to stress or lead to job turnover among early-career auditors.
She earned her Ph.D. in accounting from The University of Alabama in 2026, where she won a highly competitive National Association of State Board of Accountancy (NASBA) education research grant to support her research. At Alabama, she taught introductory courses in corporate governance and financial accounting, as well as a corporate financial reporting course.
At Auburn, she is teaching Intermediate Accounting (ACCT 5110).
Dr. Mathews’ career path was influenced by Auburn faculty mentors who encouraged her to pursue a doctoral degree so she could share her passion for teaching and research with the next generation of accountants.
In her spare time, she enjoys watching tv drama shows, reading and hiking with her husband, who is also an Auburn graduate and CPA. They have visited numerous national parks, including the Grand Canyon and Zion.
