        Minors in Business

        Whether you’re a business major looking to deepen your knowledge, or an Auburn University student majoring in a non-business program, our business minors can improve your job prospects, enhance your graduate school application, and expand your understanding of business. The Harbert College of Business offers ten different minors to suit your interests.  Explore our minor offerings below to find the best fit for you!
        • Accounting

          Are you interested in accounting and want to enhance your technical competency? The accounting minor is a great option for you! With two required courses and three electives, this minor can be tailored to complement your major. 

          Requirements
          Prerequisites

          Required Courses

          • ACCT 5110: Intermediate Accounting I (must earn a grade of ‘C’ or better) (3 hours)

        • Business Analytics

          Business analytics drives decision making in today’s business world. With a minor in Business Analytics, you’ll gain an understanding of big data, how to manage it, and how it should inform business decisionsskills that will make you stand out to potential employers. 

          Requirements

        • Business

          Are you interested in supplementing your degree with a business minor? This 15-hour minor is designed to provide a solid foundation of core business principles to non-business majors.  

          Note that prerequisites will not be waived, so pay special attention to the planning of your minor course work.

        • Business  - Study Abroad

          Are you interested in supplementing your degree with a business minor while experiencing new cultures? Then consider completing your minor in Business over the course of one semester while overseas!

        • Business-Engineering Technology

          An interdisciplinary program with the College of Business and the College of Engineering, this minor prepares you for work in technology-intensive firms where new product development requires a combination of business and technical skills. This minor is offered to top students competitively selected from the College of Business and the College of Engineering.  Applicants should have a GPA of 3.0 or greater. 

          Note that this minor is overseen by the College of Engineering, not the College of Business. For more information please see the Business-Engineering Technology page.

        • Entrepreneurship and Family Business

          The Entrepreneurship and Family Business Minor is a 15 hour program designed around the creation and management of an individual's own business as well as the fostering of an entrepreneurial mindset within a larger organization. It is perfect for students that plan to start their own business or work for a start-up, a franchise, or are interested in the purchase of an existing business. It can also be highly valuable for students that are interested in working for large, highly-innovative companies where an entrepreneurial attitude is expected and valued. 

          This minor is available to business and non-business majors.  All students, business and non-business, are required to meet all prerequisites.  Pre-requisites will not be waived. Please visit the AU Bulletin's Academic Programs and Curricula for Minor program policies, including which courses a student may take toward a minor. Courses taken to fulfill a University core curriculum requirement or a major requirement may not also be counted toward the minor. Students in the Auburn University Honors College may contract for honors credit in the minor courses.

        • Finance

          With a finance minor, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of finance and its applications in the business world. Because this minor is made up entirely of electives, you have the opportunity to focus your interest in finance to a specific concentration or opt for a varied range of courses. Choose from corporate finance, investments, financial institution management, real estate, insurance finance, and multinational finance.

          Requirements

          FINC 3610 (or FINC 3617 for students in the AU Honors College) is REQUIRED.  It may count toward the 15 required minor hours for non-business majors only.  It cannot count toward the 15 required minor hours for Business majors since it is counting toward college core for Business majors.

        • Honors Business

          Reserved for non-business students in the University Honors College. The honors business minor consists of 15 hours of coursework designed to teach core business principles to non-business majors.

          Requirements

          Honors-Level Courses
          Four of the five courses you take as part of this minor must be honors-level courses.  With the exception of ACCT 2810 for students completing this minor in the *Business Abroad program, 'Foundations' courses are not allowed for this minor.

          *Students completing this minor in the Harbert College of Business summer abroad program will satisfy the Accounting requirement with ACCT 2817: Honors Fundamentals of Accounting.

        • Information Systems Management

          With an information systems management minor, you’ll learn the foundations of telecommunication, business computer applications, database management, and analysis design of a business system—key knowledge to have in today’s information-rich society.

        • International Business

          The international business minor is the perfect complement for students wishing to live and work abroad. It provides students with a better understanding of international economics, international marketing and multinational finance. Additionally, students may choose to explore additional coursework in management, marketing, supply chain management or finance.

          Prerequisites
          Courses required for this minor have several pre-requisites.  As such, non-business students will be required to take a larger number of classes to meet the requirements for this minor.  You must meet all prerequisites for the electives you choose.         • Marketing

          With a marketing minor, you’ll learn the foundations of marketing theory and practice. Because this minor is made up entirely of electives, you have the opportunity to explore your particular interests in the field, deepening your knowledge in areas that excite you the most.           Before starting your 15-hour Marketing minor, you must first earn a ‘C’ or better in MKTG 3310, MKTG 3317 (Honors students only), or MKTG 3810 (Non-business majors only).  Junior standing is required to take MKTG 3310, MKTG 3317, or MKTG 3810.   MKTG 3810 is recommended for non-business students who are pursuing the Marketing minor.

        • Professional Sales

          The undergraduate minor in Professional Sales is designed to provide advanced education for students planning to obtain professional sales positions. The curriculum focuses on the core selling concepts associated with both business-to-business and business-to-consumer market exchanges. The program places a special emphasis on the utilization of contemporary technologies in both successful selling and sales management.

          Requirements:
          Prerequisites are denoted for courses below. THIS MINOR IS AVAILABLE TO BUSINESS MAJORS ONLY

          Required Courses (12 hours):*

          * MKTG 3310 or MKTG 3810 (with a grade of C or better) is the prerequisite for all courses
          ** MKTG 4390 (with a grade of C or better) is the prerequisite

           

        • Real Estate Development

          The minor in real estate development is composed of a series of established courses taught in the School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture (APLA), the McWhorter School of Building Science (BSCI), the Department of Finance (FINC). The minor requires 15 credit hours through a combination of required and elective courses.  Each minor pathway, determined by the student’s major, is designed to complement the respective major courses.

          Requirements:

          Note that the minor is available to FINC, APLA, or BSCI MAJORS ONLY.

          To declare the minor, FINC majors should consult with their Harbert College of Business academic advisor. BSCI and APLA majors should consult with their CADC advisor.


          Minor Pathway for FINC Majors

          **Note that FINC courses/hours may not be double-counted toward the FINC major and the Real Estate Development minor.  Additionally, ARCH 2600 cannot count toward the Real Estate Development minor if it is counting toward core fine arts or core humanities.

        • Supply Chain Management

          With a supply chain management minor, you’ll learn the foundations of supply chain operations and develop strategies for continuous improvement, honing a valuable skill set that can be applied to any industry. A supply chain management minor complements any major!

          Requirements

          Courses completed to satisfy the school/college core curriculum or a major requirement (e.g. counting toward the GPA "in the major"). may not be used to fulfill a minor.         Auburn University Minor Policies

        Keep in mind the following policies when declaring a minor or choosing courses to count toward your minor.

        • Courses completed to satisfy a university core requirement (e.g. ECON 2020/2027), the school/college core curriculum, or a major requirement (e.g. counting toward the GPA “in the major”), may not be used to fulfill a minor. Supporting coursework may be used in satisfying the requirements for a minor if a minor is not required by the student’s academic major.
        • Students must earn a minimum overall grade average of 2.0 on all coursework in the minor.
        • No more than 6 minor hours can be completed at another institution.  Upper-level minor courses (3000-level or higher) cannot be completed at a 2-year institution.

        • Pre-Business students can declare a minor in business as soon as they are eligible to declare their intended major.
