Gibson serves as the Waters Professor and Executive Director of the Center for Supply Chain Innovation at Auburn University. Prior to joining the Auburn faculty in 1999, he held the position of associate professor and director of Southern Center for Logistics and Intermodal Transportation at Georgia Southern University. His academic experience is complimented by eight years of retail distribution management experience.
Gibson teaches supply chain management courses in Auburn’s undergraduate, graduate, and executive MBA programs. He is the developer of innovative distance learning programs for which he received the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals’ 2009 Teaching Innovations Award. He is also the recipient of numerous teaching, research, and service awards.
Gibson’s work is published in leading supply chain academic and industry journals. He has participated in a wide variety of sponsored research studies including the Logistics 2030 project, the annual State of the Retail Supply Chain Report, and CSCMP’s talent management study. Gibson is author of Supply Chain Essentials e-textbook, co-author of the market-leading textbooks Supply Chain Management: A Logistics Perspective and Transportation: A Supply Chain Perspective, and co-author of The Definitive Guide to Integrated Supply Chain Management.
Gibson participates in a variety of industry and professional organization activities, including executive education, corporate training, and consulting. Gibson serves as vice chair of the Board of Directors for the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals and is active in the Retail Industry Leaders Association through his work with the Logistics Steering Committee and the Supply Chain Leaders Council.
