        ISMN 7980

        Course Overview

ISMN 7980 (MSIS Project) serves as the culminating experience for the MSIS program, enabling students to integrate and apply the knowledge and technical skills acquired throughout their studies. This final required class encourages and challenges students to analyze a real-world business problem, design a technology solution, and produce both professional-quality documentation and a final presentation.

        Prerequisite Coursework

To ensure adequate preparation, students must complete the following two required MSIS courses before enrolling in ISMN 7980: ISMN 7830 (Database Development and Design) and ISMN 7660 (Information Systems Analysis and Design). ISMN 7980 is typically taken in the final semester of the MSIS program. In the semester prior to your final semester, you must prepare an initial project proposal for ISMN 7980 and discuss it with the Director of Business Analytics and Information Systems Masters and Certificate Programs. The director will review your idea, provide feedback, and approve the topic. Once approved, you will be officially enrolled in this course.

Although the course is completed at the end of your program, students are strongly encouraged to begin exploring potential project topics early—ideally from the beginning of their MSIS coursework. Effective communication is one of the key drivers of a successful and impactful final project.

        Project Expectations and Topics

Each student completes an individual project tailored to their background, interests, and career goals. The goal is to develop a technical solution for a program. While each student chooses a direction aligned with their background and career path, past selective projects have included areas such as:

        • AI-assisted solutions
        • Database-driven applications
        • Business process redesign
        • Data analytics dashboards
        • Web application development
        • Cybersecurity analysis projects

These variations allow students to tailor the final project to their strengths—technical, analytical, managerial, or design-oriented.
