Under Auburn alumnus Antonio Coleman's leadership, the Williamson High School football team is now more purposeful in their personal goals—in both sports and life. |
Auburn business alumnus Rucker Taylor III (’72) passed away in April, but his ability to positively influence others lives on, particularly through fellow Auburn graduate Antonio Coleman (’08) and the Williamson High School football team in Mobile, Alabama.
A former professional football player, Coleman returned to his old high school as head coach, wanting to turn the football program around. Magnanimous and outgoing, Taylor enlisted the help of like-minded Auburn alumni in the area, including Doug McLeod (business ’87) and Tommy Druhan (business ’92), to support Coleman’s efforts.
Known as the “Antonio Network,” Taylor and the others started out by providing new football equipment but expanded into providing career mentorship and job opportunities for the young athletes.
Taylor’s Williamson project had become an enormous final act, reshaping the fortunes of a struggling football team and bringing to life the transformative vision of its head coach to improve the lives of all his players, not just the ones destined for college football.
“This year it’ll be special because Mr. Rucker did so much and he left such a legacy,” said Coleman. “He impacted me in [the last] 3 years more than anybody has in my life.”
