MC&A ACADEMY
PROGRAM INFORMATION:
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Material Control and Accountability (MC&A) Academy aims to expand the knowledge, technical base, and experience of individuals currently working in or with a MC&A program or who will join one as a new staff member. There are three distinct academies: Early Career Academy, Mid-Career Academy, and College Summer Internship.
The purpose of MC&A is to deter and detect theft and diversion of special nuclear material (SNM) and provide information on SNM and other accountable nuclear materials (OANM).
EARLY CAREER ACADEMY:
For participants new to MC&A (with one to five years of experience), this academy establishes a strong foundation in MC&A knowledge. It exposes them to a variety of MC&A performance approaches from across the NNSA complex.
MID-CAREER ACADEMY:
This academy hones the expertise of individuals with six or more years of MC&A experience, focusing on the continued development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills applied to real-world MC&A challenges.
COLLEGE SUMMER INTERNSHIP:
This academy serves as an internship for college-level students to learn about careers in nuclear MC&A. Selected students will participate in summer-long substantive technical internships at Department of Energy laboratories, plants, and/or sites, as well as an intense two and-a-half-week immersive and interactive training session focused on MC&A and its relationship to the multi-faceted programs and operations of NNSA. Students are well-positioned for job opportunities upon completion.
