Dr. Serviss joined the Harbert College of Business in 2014. He served eight years as an adjunct faculty member and Program Champion in the Department of Marketing prior to being promoted to his current position. He received his Ph.D. in marketing from the Mitchell College of Business at the University of South Alabama.
His co-authored manuscript, “Communication Alignment in Sales: The Role of Emotional Intelligence,” won the prestigious Steven J. Shaw & Joe Hair Best Paper Award at the 2020 Society for Marketing Advances (SMA) Conference. In 2022, Dr. Serviss and his colleagues received the best paper in the Strategy/Entrepreneurship track for their research on the performance implications of the power-trust relationship at the SMA conference. Dr. Serviss has also been recognized for his teaching and has received the prestigious McCartney Teaching Award, awarded by the Harbert College of Business at Auburn University, and was a finalist in 2019 for the Harbert College of Business Lowder Teaching Award.
Prior to academia, he spent over 20 years in industry working in a variety of marketing roles with Fortune 500 companies and ad agencies.
