        Professional activities

        Shashank Rao is the Jim W. Thompson Professor of Supply Chain Management at AU, prior to which he held a faculty appointment at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He holds a bachelor's in environmental engineering an MBA in marketing and finance, and a doctorate in operations and supply chain management.

        Prior to entering academe, Rao was a relationship manager at Citigroup N.A.. He previously also worked for the Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India. His research interests focus on Internet retailing, logistics, and the broad intersection of development  economics and supply chain management.

        He has published several articles in every "elite" journal on Auburn's SCM  workload document, including as the Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Business Logistics, Production & Operations Management, Decision Sciences Journal, Journal of Supply Chain Management, and International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management. He also serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Business Logistics, and the the Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, in addition to serving on the editorial board of several other leading Logistics & SCM journals.

        Rao serves as a frequent speaker at academic conferences, executive education seminars, and professional meetings. Recent consulting assignments include work with Target, Aptar Pharma, MercuryGate, Tempur-Sealy International, Cipla Pharma, and the US Department of Labor. He also serves as a visiting professor of management at the Indian Institute of Technology—Mumbai, one of the leading business schools in India.
