AUBURN, Ala. — Professionals in real estate, development, construction, and public policy will soon have the opportunity to sharpen their skills in affordable housing through Auburn University’s inaugural Affordable Housing Professional Certificate Program, which will be held July 21-25, 2025, at the Auburn in Birmingham Building in downtown Birmingham, Alabama.

Offered by The Winchester Institute for Real Estate Development, the five-day immersive program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools to address the growing demand for affordable housing across the nation. The curriculum combines hands-on learning with expert-led sessions, offering attendees practical experience through real-world case studies, team-based capstone projects, and a final presentation to a simulated investment committee.

John Benner, executive director of The Winchester Institute, emphasized the program's relevance, noting, “Affordable housing is a critical issue across the country. This program provides professionals with the resources and networks necessary to make meaningful contributions in their communities.”

Participants will gain insights from prominent industry leaders in real estate finance, architecture, urban planning, public policy, and construction. Key topics include navigating financing mechanisms such as Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) and Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) programs, risk management, deal modeling, and principles of resilient design.

Graduates of the program will receive a certificate from Auburn University, underscoring their expertise in affordable housing development. Additionally, registrants will be granted access to the Novogradac LIHTC Financial Forecast Model, a vital tool for affordable housing project planning.

The enrollment fee is $4,000. Space is limited to ensure an engaging and collaborative learning environment.
