Whether he is giving tours to prospective students or interning with major employers, senior Jack Wilson has made the most out of his four years at Auburn University.

Wilson is a student studying business analytics and finance with a minor in statistics, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

Growing up an Alabama football fan, Wilson’s decision to attend Auburn was unexpected, but the welcoming culture and sense of community that he experienced on his campus visit ultimately drew him in.

“The campus, the culture– it just felt like a place I could call home,” said Wilson, who is from Decatur, Ala. “It felt like it was a family here.”

According to Wilson, he has always had a deep-found interest in data science and mathematics, which led him to join the Harbert College of Business as a business analytics major.

“The more I talked to the college of business coming in, I realized that there are a lot of opportunities here to gain a well-rounded set of skills that I felt like I wouldn't have gotten in other colleges,” he said.

Wilson discovered his interest in finance through the variety of courses offered in Harbert College’s curriculum. Enjoying the subject, Wilson declared finance as a second major during his junior year.

Alongside expanding his interests, those courses also helped him succeed in his internship experience, he said. Wilson found ISMN 3830, database management systems, to be a particularly applicable course outside of the classroom.

In the summer of 2022, Wilson worked as a data analytics and visualization intern with NASA in Huntsville, where he contributed to making NASA’s data analysis processes more efficient and easier to understand. Wilson transformed a large excel file into a Power BI report, which visualizes data through an interactive dashboard of charts and graphs.

During the past two summers, he worked as an intern for The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta, where he built a solution that utilized SQL, Microsoft Power Apps and Microsoft Power Automate to automate a date change process. Prior to Wilson’s automation, team members would manually enter date changes for delayed orders, which took hours, he said.

His team at Coca-Cola still uses the solution to this day, said Wilson, who learned about the internship from a Harbert College alumnus.

Harbert alumni are a useful resource to students looking for internship positions as they are always happy to help current students, he said.

Outside of his academic endeavors, Wilson is a member of the Executive Society, a host and leadership organization consisting of distinguished Harbert College students. In this role, he promotes the college by conducting tours and interacting with guests at receptions and luncheons.

“Getting to give the tours has been very nice because I get to share my love for Auburn with other people,” Wilson said.

Wilson acknowledges the impact of Harbert College on his personal and professional growth.

“The college of business has definitely supported me, and it starts within the classroom with professors,” Wilson said. “[My professors have] really helped me to succeed, to keep a good GPA and to make sure I'm getting the most out of classes.”

When Wilson graduates in spring, he plans to move to Atlanta and work as a business analyst. Despite his journey as a student coming to an end, Wilson will forever carry the irreplaceable lessons, experience and memories that come with being a part of the Auburn family.
