Professional Activities

Gary retired from Auburn University on June 1, 2017. In retirement, Gary is very pleased to teach Financial Statement Analysis in the Department of Finance in the Harbert College of Business.

Prior to retirement, Gary worked in higher education for a total of 37 years, with the great majority of those years being at Auburn University and the University of Texas. During his career in higher education, Gary worked as a professor in Accounting and Finance, as an administrator in the Harbert College of Business at Auburn University and as administrator in the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. Before moving to the Auburn University Athletics Department in 2011, Gary served as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Business Programs in the Harbert College of Business. During his last six years of employment, Gary served as the Senior Associate Athletics Director within the Auburn University Athletics Department and directed Student-Athlete Support Services. Gary is the proud recipient of 21 teaching awards, including the Texas Excellence Teaching Award received from the Ex-Students Association at the University of Texas and the Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award received from the Auburn University Alumni Association.

Gary is a native of Cullman County, Alabama. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Auburn University, a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and a Doctor in Business Administration Degree from the University of Tennessee. Gary is married to the former Jackie Wilson of Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Jackie and Gary have one son, Levi and one daughter, Emily.
