John Hornbuckle joined the joined Auburn University's Harbert College of Business as Chief Information Officer in 2017. During his time at Harbert College he has been heavily-involved in multiple large projects, including the design and construction of Horton-Hardgrave Hall, and led the transformation of the IT department from a service provider to a strategic partner.

His IT career began in the private sector, when he turned a hobby of working on computers into a full-time job. After working for several years for a regional Internet service provider, he and a co-worker launched their own IT sales and service company.

Eventually he transitioned to the public sector, taking a job running IT operations for a school district. While working there, he completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees and earned his Project Management Professional certification. He next moved into higher education, taking a position as IT Director for the Florida State University College of Business. He served there for five years before being lured to the loveliest village on the plains.
