Dr. Wang's research focuses on two streams: 1: digital marketing, social media, and Economics of IS, and 2: strategic Information Technology (IT) management, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) implications of IT management, and information security management.

In his first stream of research, he studies the impact of emerging technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, virtual reality) and social media in various settings such as the automobile, real estate, fashion, sport, and IT industries. In his second stream of research, he examines how firms could strategically manage their IT resources to enhance competitive advantages, the DEI implications of IT management in organizations, and the organizational and institutional approach to information security management.

His research focuses on the intersections of IT, user behavior, and business management. He is interested in the effect of online and offline information on user behaviors and managerial decisions. Several of his current projects focus on the DEI implications of IT management from the firm board’s perspective. He leverages various methodologies in his research, including quantitative methods (e.g., econometrics, machine learning) and qualitative methods (e.g., case study).

His research has appeared in several UTD 24 journals, such as Information Systems Research and Production and Operations Management and other high-impact journals. He has received Departmental Outstanding Research Awards and has been in the Outstanding Rising Scholar Award Finalists at the Harbert College of Business.
