        Career Expo Weeks offers opportunities for development, recruitment

        Career Expos give students the opportunity to meet with company representatives.Need help writing a résumé? Want to improve your career networking or salary negotiating skills? Students at Harbert College have an opportunity to make themselves better job and internship candidates through a number of upcoming workshops offered by the Office of Professional and Career Development in conjunction with fall semester’s series of Career Expo Weeks. The workshop schedule through September is as follows: Job Search and Resource Organization: Sept. 2 at 3 p.m.; Résumé Writing: Sept. 3 at 4 p.m.; LinkedIn/Networking: Sept. 4 at 3 p.m.; Professional Dress & Appearance: Sept. 9 at 2 p.m.; Business Professionalism and Etiquette: Sept. 9 at 3 p.m.; Networking and Mingling Skills: Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. All workshops will be held in the OPCD office. Formerly known as Industry Weeks, Career Expo Weeks already has more than 60 firms tentatively scheduled to send representatives to Lowder Hall this fall, where students have the opportunity to meet with recruiters and potentially set up interviews. Consulting/Technology Career Expo Week will be Sept. 15-19, with the expo on Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Firms tentatively scheduled to attend, through Aug. 25, include KPMG, Deloitte, Quorum Business Solutions, Sogeti, Ernst & Young, Aflac, MailChimp, Cap Gemini, Safe Systems, Community Health System, BIAS Corp., and Hitachi Consulting. Supply Chain and Aviation Management Career Expo Week will be Sept. 22-26, with the expo on Sept. 25 from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Firms tentatively scheduled to attend, through Aug. 25, include Colgate-Palmolive, DAMCO Distribution Services, Exel, Unisourse Worldwide, Montgomery Transport, Hub Group, Target, The Home Depot, Total Quality Logistics, AAA Cooper Transportation, Save-A-Lot Food Stores, Georgia-Pacific, MHC Kenworth, Shaw Industries, Old Dominion Freight Line, Waffle House, Gypsum Management & Supply, Plumbing Distributors, R+L Truckload Services, Frito-Lay, J.B. Hunt Transport, P&S Transportation, and OTR Capital. Finance Career Expo Week will be Sept. 29-Oct. 3, with the expo on Oct. 2 from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Firms tentatively scheduled to attend, through Aug. 25, include Waddell & Reed, Waddell & Reed (Atlanta Division), Aflac, Geico, Regions Financial, Northwestern Mutual, D.R. Horton, and BB&T. Marketing, Sales and Retail Career Expo Week will be Oct. 6-10 with the expo on Oct. 9 from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Firms tentatively scheduled to attend, through Aug. 25, include Sherwin Williams, Ferguson Enterprises, Brooksource, Target, Acuity Brands, Total Quality Logistics, Aflac, Altria Group Distribution Company, Waste Management, Save-A-Lot Food Stores, Enterprise Holdings, C.H. Robinson, E&J Gallo Winery, Insight Global, Unum, KONE, Waffle House, Echo Global Logistics, and Internal Data Resources. A number of other workshops will accompany each Career Expo Week. The schedule is as follows (workshops in the OPCD unless noted): Expo Prep Seminar: Monday of each Expo Week, 5 p.m. and Tuesday of each Expo Week at 3:30 p.m.; Second Interviews/Case Interviews: Tuesday of each Expo Week at 5 p.m.; BUSI 2010: Wednesday of each Expo Week at 2 p.m.; Dean/Department Head/Faculty/Employer Luncheon: Wednesday of each Expo Week at noon in the Alabama Power Room; Development Session for OPCD Staff with Employers: Wednesday of each Expo Week at 1:30 p.m.; Employer Résumé Reviews and Mock Interviews: Wednesday of each Expo Week at 2:30 p.m.; Faculty/Student Leader/Employer Reception: Wednesday of each Expo Week at 4 p.m.; Employer Preview Session split by job/intern categories: Wednesday of each Expo Week at 5 p.m. (locations will vary); Practice Your Expo Pitch with Recruiters: Wednesday of each Expo Week at 6:15 p.m. (5th Floor). Interviews on Friday in the OPCD will follow Thursday’s Career Expos.
