How do you budget your money?  How much does going to college really cost? How does the stock market work? How can you spend money more wisely? fairRoughly 270 Harbert College of Business students in Sarah Stanwick’s managerial accounting classes will answer these questions, and more, for children and their parents Tuesday, Oct. 28, in two sessions in the Loachapoka High School gymnasium. The event, titled The Benjamin Bash, will help Loachapoka students learn more about "growing Benjamins and business basics."  The event will feature a number of financial-related interactive activities, manned by Stanwick’s students, to help broaden children’s knowledge of the financial world outside of the home. Similar to past financial literacy fairs, often held at Drake Middle School in Auburn, the newly-named “Benjamin Bash: Building Your Benjamins and Business Basics” will be presented to seventh- through ninth graders from 12:45-2:45 p.m., and again for parents and students of all ages from 6-8 p.m. “Our success with engaging students about financial literacy has been overwhelming successful at Drake Middle School," said Stanwick, an associate professor in accounting and the Harbert College Diversity Officer, who is organizing the fair. "Our intent in the AU School of Accountancy and the Harbert College is to showcase our exceptional students and their knowledge of financial matters to reach more students. We hope to build a relationship with Loachapoka High School like we have with Drake Middle School to help children prepare for their financial futures. We want to plant the seed for young students to learn about financial literacy so they can manage their money when they grow older."
