At the Harbert College of Business, our faculty are what make the difference. Great students deserve great faculty and thankfully, we are surrounded by just that!
Today, we are highlighting Dr. Albert Wang, who just joined our department Fall 2016. Prior to Auburn, Dr. Wang taught at both the University of Alabama (BOO!) and Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Why should students consider a career in finance? Finance is the new sexy! Actually, what I mean is that finance is not just about numbers, but it teaches you how to outperform or outsmart other people.
What is the focus of your current research? What are the key issues and questions that interest you? The effect of human behavioral bias on finance. For example, one of my working papers examines how the experience of terrorist attacks in the US affect investors’ portfolio choices. We find that investors’ demand for risky mutual fund is inversely related to the level of terrorism.
What advice would you give our students? There is no free lunch in this world. You harvest what you plant.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you. I have a twin brother, which is only 5 minutes younger than me.
What profession, other than your own, would you most like to attempt? Soccer player
If you had to sit next to someone on an airplane for the next 8 hours, who would it be and why? My daughter because she is the light of my life.
If you were a superhero, what would be your superpower? Predict the future (including but not limited to stock market).
