Underwriting Intern:
Department Overview:
Underwriting is responsible for rate and financial risk analysis, projecting claims
and administrative costs for new group business, as well as, renewing group business.
This department establishes new groups files on the system and maintains changes to
existing group files. It also reviews all new group files and changes through quality
assurance. Underwriting provides groups with information for filing annual ERISA
reporting and is also responsible for all individual application evaluation and reviewing
Incapacitated Children applications. Underwriting works closely with our Marketing
department.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Internship Program is designed to provide practical work experience as well as exposure to our business environment. Responsibilities include performing group insurance set up tasks and analytic testing. This may range from building and adjusting financial models, to assisting in analyzing of impact of changes within the health insurance environment. Additional project management and project execution opportunities will be part of this experience.
Summary of Qualifications:
- Status as a college student or recent college graduate of an educational institution
- Experience working with various Microsoft Office programs
- Experience interpreting and communicating information orally and written
- Experience researching and analyzing data
- Experience working independently as well as in a team environment
- Experience identifying and solving problems
- Must have a 3.0 GPA or consistent work/extracurricular activities if lower
- Junior, Senior or higher is preferred
- SQL querying skills preferred
- Math, Finance, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or Accounting degree preferred
