The Department of Business Analytics and Information Systems at Auburn invites you to participate in my research study on assessing a tool for improving probabilistic reasoning by forecasting the winners of games in the 2024 March Madness basketball tournament. You may participate if you are a student at Auburn University. Only 200 subjects will be allowed to participate.

If you choose to participate, you may be asked to complete a training module for the tool ranging from 30 minutes to 60 minutes, depending on your pace. The training is expected to occur just before the beginning of the March Madness Tournament.

For participating and completing all assigned forecasts and surveys about your experience, you will be compensated $40. Participants can earn as much as $100, because incentives will be distributed amongst the top 50% of performers of each group in each tournament round, as follows (the numbers are based on a participant pool of 200):

        • Top 10% (~21 participants): $20 each
        • Next 15% (top 11-25%, ~30 participants): $15 each
        • Next 25% (top 26-50%, ~48 participants) : $10 each

The compensation will be distributed based on your performance relative to other participants who received the same type and amount of training as you. In other words, you are compared with others in your group, not the entire participant pool.

Your predictions and training results will be kept confidential. Information retained to dispense your compensation will be kept in a separate repository. That information will be deleted after the study. If you want more information about this study, an information letter can be found at this linkIf you choose to participate after reading the letter, please contact Dr. Paradice by clicking here. Include your first and last names.
