Students are being targeted nationally by a group of hackers/scammers under the guise of an EY employment opportunity. EY is aware of the scam and taking measures to remediate it, but asked that Auburn students be warned. For your own safety, you should never provide personal/sensitive information to an unknown employer representative.

In the reported case, an Auburn student was text messaged by a "hiring clerk" named Katherine Tarbox, who represented that she was screening résumés for various opportunities at "EY Intl." This text message was followed up by an invitation to interview via Google Hangouts with an employee named Jessica Shaw. The interview was conducted entirely via instant messaging and no phone/video conversation was involved. In this case, both Jessica and Katherine are actual EY employees, but their identities were stolen by the scammers perpetuating the scheme.

Following the interview, an email with a "job briefing" was sent to the candidate that outlines the nature of the fraudulent "job." This email was flagged as SPAM by the Auburn University email security system, which led the student to report the incident.  Auburn students should exercise caution as you interact with prospective employers in a virtual manner. If anything seems out of the ordinary, or you are contacted by someone you do not know who asks for your personal information, please verify the interaction's legitimacy with that employer's main recruiting contact or Mrs. Lakas.
