Job Description
Financial and Contract Services provides billing and settlement for the Intercompany Interchange Contract (IIC), wholesale contracts, coal related commodities, and the Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT), and analysis of wholesale energy margins and system operations. This position is primarily responsible for supporting the administration of wholesale contracts on behalf of each Operating Company within Southern Company but will include exposure to all areas in Financial and Contract Services.
Responsibilities of the analyst include:

Implement and administer wholesale capacity/energy, coal related commodities and transmission usage contracts including accurate and timely settlement preparation, supporting documentation, accounting data, reports and statistical information, and issue resolution

Perform within the established control structures to ensure the integrity of the company financials

Establish and maintain positive relationships with wholesale, commodity & transportation customers as well as internal clients and other constituents to ensure the provision of superior customer service

Collect, verify/validate, and maintain data to support monthly settlement, company close processes, analyses, and regulatory filing responsibilities

Develop and administer processes for filing regulatory information for various agencies such as FERC, SERC, PSCs, SEC, etc. and internal / external controls and third-party auditors (Sarbanes Oxley)

Participate in the development of automated tools/systems that will maximize the efficiency of business processes; continuously re-evaluate business processes and technology to improve productivity and efficiencies of the team

Support operating company monthly accounting closing cycles related to settlement activities and energy margins.

Manage settlement cycle of receipts and payments in Oracle Receivables, Oracle Payables, and General Ledger, while adhering to control structure.

Develop and analyze unit specific energy margins on behalf of Southern Power Company

Investigate and develop operating companies’ variance analyses related to actual versus budgeted fuel costs

Provide analysis and responses to data requests from the state Public Service Commissions (PSC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
