Barry Russell is a Lecturer in the Supply Chain Management Department of the Harbert College of Business at Auburn University.
Barry has over 28 years of experience as a practitioner developing supply chain strategies and managing operations for technology manufacturers and telecom service providers. Most recently he served as a Senior Manager in Ernst & Young’s (EY) Supply Chain Consulting practice where he was responsible for leading client engagements, focused on identifying and enabling supply chain process and business model improvements for his clients.
Prior to joining EY, he served as Director of Global Logistics at World Wide Technology (WWT), one of the largest cloud computing systems integrators, serving web service providers including Amazon and Microsoft. While at WWT, he was responsible for all domestic and international transportation as well as Global Trade Compliance, supporting operations in the US, Amsterdam, and Singapore.
Barry also worked for many years at AT&T, where he designed the supply chain to support the cell site network for Cingular Wireless. The model centralized the forecasting, planning, procurement and distribution of equipment to support cell site expansion and upgrades and is still in use today.
For a period of time, he managed transportation supporting AT&T’s retail store replenishments and online direct-to-consumer orders. He was responsible for managing all parcel and LTL carrier relationships, contract negotiations and carrier performance management for over $250 million in annual freight spend.
Barry started his career in operations management for working for two LTL carriers before becoming a logistics engineer at a large 3PL, designing logistics solutions and network strategies for Ryder Integrated Logistics’ hi-tech customers.
Barry’s passions outside of supply chain include his family and his faith. He’s led a number of international mission trips to South America and Russia and serves on the board of the Dunamis Foundation ministry in Ecuador.
