Dunn's research focuses on auditor characteristics and the determinants of audit quality, as well as other auditing, financial reporting, and regulatory topics. He was a recipient of the Accounting Doctoral Scholars fellowship awarded by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and has received awards for his research and teaching as a doctoral student. He has also presented research and served in other roles at many American Accounting Association (AAA) conferences.
In his time at the University of Missouri and the University of Alabama, Dunn taught undergraduate and graduate auditing, financial statement analysis, and introductory courses. He will be teaching the undergraduate auditing course (ACCT 4310) at Auburn, where he utilizes his five years of auditing experience at Crowe Horwath and Kemper CPA Group. Dunn holds an active CPA license in Kentucky and is a member of the AICPA and AAA.
