        Student Opportunities

        Auburn Finance Society (AFS):

The Auburn Finance Society (AFS) provides students from all majors with an open gateway to explore finance careers through hands-on learning, professional exposure, and industry connections. Under the leadership of Program Champion Mandy Harrelson, AFS serves as a bridge between students and the finance industry, offering training, travel, and education across multiple focus areas.

Students interested in derivatives participate in an annual trip to the Chicago Board of Trade led by Senior Lecturer Jeffrey Hart. Those pursuing banking visit the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta with Professor of Practice Damion McIntosh, and students exploring wealth management travel to a different financial center each year to engage directly with leading firms. In addition to these experiential site visits, AFS members attend networking events, executive presentations, and targeted technical workshops, and can pursue industry certifications that strengthen their professional readiness.

"We welcome all students, but you have to be willing to work," said Harrelson. "We want students who desire more beyond the classroom and who have a thirst to grow."

Auburn Financial Management Association (FMA) and Auburn Student Investment Fund (ASIF)

The Financial Management Association (FMA) and Auburn Student Investment Fund (ASIF) form the Integrated Financial Leadership Program, an honors-style experience that focuses on a pathway to high-finance careers. This program combines advanced coursework, live portfolio management, and direct engagement with industry professionals to prepare finance students for competitive roles in the field.

        Financial Management Association (FMA)

FMA is a selective professional development program for finance majors seeking placement in investment banking, sales and trading, credit, corporate banking, private wealth, and asset management. Admission requires a 3.6 GPA and a two-round interview process. Candidates complete more than 40 hours of technical and professional training before gaining full membership in FMA, where they advance through four FMA-specific courses: Advanced Financial Modeling, Advanced Securities Analysis, Advanced Portfolio Management, and Advanced Investments. Members also take part in forums, executive-led bootcamps, and immersive travel to leading financial hubs and case competitions. The program boasts 100 percent internship and full-time placement for members, with an average starting compensation of $153,500 in 2025.

        Auburn Student Investment Fund (ASIF)

Membership in FMA includes participation in ASIF, where students gain hands-on experience managing a live investment portfolio that has grown from a $250,000 seed fund in 2017 to nearly $985,000. Juniors complete a full year of coursework in research and portfolio management, while seniors serve on the fund’s executive board, guiding investment decisions and mentoring new analysts. ASIF replicates a professional asset management environment and serves as a cornerstone of Auburn’s experiential finance education, instilling analytical rigor, leadership, and stewardship in every participant.
