This summer I have had the opportunity to work as a Human Resources (HR) Intern for Boeing. This has been an amazing experience, and I have loved every second of it. Boeing is one of the largest defense contractors in the world. I am working with the Space Launch System team under Space and Launch. My daily tasks vary, but almost every day I am joining the HR team on calls to discuss new projects and things that are going on (staffing, hiring events, etc.). I also work on projects with other HR interns, have got to travel to different Boeing sites, and I had a week of shadowing the HR team that supports IT&DA (Information Technology and Data Analytics).

My favorite thing I have done so far is travel to the Boeing site in Florida and help organize a Hiring Event. It was awesome finally getting to meet some of the team members that I had been on calls with all summer. The day of the event I assisted the project manager, and worked at the welcome table. At the welcome table I would provide the applicant with the form they needed to complete, and redirect them to a different section of the room depending on which position they applied for. I really enjoyed this experience, and getting to see the event from an employer perspective. After the event, I got to tour the Kennedy Space Center, and see the Starliner (a capsule Boeing is working on). Seeing it in person was definitely one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

One thing that I have learned is that there is a lot to learn and taking notes helps! I am constantly interacting with new people, learning new things about the company, hearing about developing projects, and so much more. I started taking notes throughout the day when these things occur. This allows me to go back and refer to the notes if I forget something, and also dig in to the things I don’t know that much about!
