Professional Activities

Jeff Long oversees local day-to-day operations for the Harbert College of Business at the Auburn in Birmingham building and he performs outreach activities with Birmingham area businesses and corporate leaders. Long also serves as the official host to guests and program participants at the downtown Birmingham facility.  

Long joined Auburn University’s Harbert College of Business in 2012 as its chief operating officer, where he oversaw finance, accounting, human resources, facilities, IT, and events.

He also serves as an adjunct professor for Harbert College, and has received several teaching honors, including the 2024 Final Lecture Award, a teaching award given on behalf of the student body, recognizing faculty who have made extraordinary contributions to Auburn University through classroom teaching and service to the university.

Prior to joining Auburn, Long served as chief financial officer at Port Canaveral, one of the largest cruise passenger ports in the world. Long's prior experience also includes executive finance and operations positions at the Golf Channel and ESPN.

Long began his career at Deloitte in Birmingham, where he achieved his CPA. He graduated from Auburn with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and received an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2018, Long earned a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Auburn (Dissertation Title: Effects of Responsibility Center Management System on Financial Performance Indicators Among 50 Public Universities).
