        Professional Activities

        Ronald E. Barto serves as a Lecturer in the Supply Chain Department of the Auburn University Harbert College of Business. He is a Supply Chain Professional and IT ERP Project Manager that has over 35 years of combined industry and military experience in working Supply Chain issues across the globe. A retired Marine Reservist, he began his career on “the Plains” as a graduate of Auburn’s Navy ROTC program.

        His military specialty was Aviation Logistics and after six years of initial service, he joined industry in several direct manufacturing and distribution positions that included time on the Shop Floor, Master Scheduling and Plant/Site Management. Subsequently, he became a Third-Party Logistics provider and Contract Manager to General Motors and Compaq Computer. Working as a manufacturing, distribution and procurement consultant for a Swedish software provider, he later configured and implemented ERP systems to a diverse set of small to medium consumer goods companies ranging from medical devices, flooring and clothing manufacturers to industrial warehousing supplies.

        Recalled to active military service after 9/11, he held senior positions within the Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Supply Chain and the Marine Corps Systems Command. His time in uniform saw him address critical commodity shortages, develop innovative Government/industry partnering solutions, radically change the Department of Defense’s Aviation Supply Chain by implementing Base Closure reforms and consolidated Marine Corps logistics management systems.

        After military retirement, he became an award-winning Senior Manager and Leader for Northrop Grumman working on one of the world’s largest SAP Supply Chain implementations for the US Army.

        Most recently, he has led IT ERP system upgrades and implementations for: a site implementation in Mexico, coordinated consultant efforts for e-Commerce and Brick & Mortar apparel sites for a Spanish Football Team and formed the consulting team moving a global ERP solution from Europe to the US.

        He has a MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California and holds a number of professional certifications to include: Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), LEAN Six Sigma Black Belt and Professional Scrum Master I.
